Abandoned Argentia Photo Set on Flickr

On the site of the former US Naval Base, Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada. It was built in 1940 and served as secure deep water anchorage for the transatlantic supply line during WW2, and as a base for Allied sub-hunters. It also had it’s own small airport, Bristol Field. At times, the personal numbers rose to 7000 but the base was officially closed and abandoned by 1994. Argentia still has its secrets, but here’s something.
